The Royal Academy of Arts is currently seeking a Senior Building Services Engineer with broad, multi-disciplinary experience to develop and manage the long-term strategy and lifecycle of our mechanical, electrical and electronic building services.

Our building services include:

  • HVAC systems (currently chillers, boilers, dehumidifiers, pumps, fans and AHUs)
  • Building Management Systems (mainly Trend) and lighting controls
  • Fire detection and security systems
  • People and goods lifts, and low voltage electrical distribution networks

This role will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency, resilience and lifecycle management of these engineering assets. This includes strategic planning, overseeing designs, setting standards, planning maintenance and replacements, and supporting fault resolution. 

About You

To be considered for this role, you will possess expert knowledge and experience in either HVAC and Public Health systems and/or Building Management Systems, Lifts, Fire, and Security Systems. You will have excellent ability to plan and deliver engineering strategies, preventative maintenance regimes and improvement projects, as well as a strong have a strong understanding of health and safety legislation, building regulations and statutory compliance.

Working knowledge of managing services and conditions within galleries, museums or similar environments with controlled conditions is key, as is knowledge of sustainability and environmental standards.

 

The RA dates way back to 1768 when a group of artists and architects persuaded King George lll to help them to ‘establish a society for promoting the Art of Design'. The original academy, in Pall Mall, was less than 10 meters long. Since then, there have been many changes, though the RA’s core purpose of bringing art and design to a broad audience and championing art and artists still holds true.   

Today we are a contemporary art organisation hosting internationally acclaimed exhibitions and through investment in employee training and development, with courses such as Unconscious Bias, LGBTQ+ Awareness, Bystander, and Mental Health First Aid training, we are striving to foster a safe space for everyone through positive action. We also have Employee Network Groups, Ways In Groups, and an Employee Council so every employee has a voice and a way to feel heard by colleagues through the CEO.
